AMTRA is appointed by the Secretary of State to act as a Regulator for those people known as Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs) prescribing and supplying POM-VPS and NFA-VPS animal medicines.
AMTRA is a not-for-profit organisation, working since 1986 to carry out that primary role as a Regulator, but more broadly to support the long-term future of the sector, in particular through a focus on standards. AMTRA manages the registration for 6000-7000 SQPs, and seeks to enhance both the quality of the service they provide and wider understanding of that role.
We are looking to recruit an experienced administrator who can lead on customer care and data management. You must be able to contribute as part of a team of five, but also be able to work confidently under your own initiative, working proactively to identify forthcoming priorities, organising your workload accordingly and supporting colleagues as required.
Key parts of the role are managing new student enrolments, exam bookings and exam results, managing data relating to continuing professional development, and handling email and telephone queries from our customers whether they are individuals or their employers. The role should also grow into managing reviews of all outgoing documentation and guidance, and helping identify ways to improve our service, as well as anything else that needs doing in a small business.
It is essential that the successful candidate has a calm, methodical and organised personality, a flexible approach and has the ability to cope with a wide range of tasks, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy. A good telephone and email manner are important. IT skills are important and you will need to be competent in use of Word, Excel and Outlook.
A lot of the role will involve use of a Microsoft Access database, to enter data and to use it to help resolve questions – experience of using MS Access would be advantageous, and, while not essential, the ideal candidate will have experience of creation and use of simple SQL queries, and experience of simple coding in VBA would be even better – or be able to demonstrate relevant IT aptitude that could lead to such skills.
AMTRA is the main regulatory body for animal medicines advisors, known formally as SQPs, who prescribe and supply medicines for animals that don’t require a prescription from a vet. We manage the professional registration for over 6000 SQPs plus enrolment of new candidates and coordinate their exams with Harper Adams University.
The AMTRA office is located in Woolpit, between Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket. The role is office-based and the candidate must expect normally to work at the office in Woolpit between 9 and 5. The role is part-time, normally three days a week, with the ideal candidate able to work additional time flexibly in response to peaks in workload and to help support colleagues.
Should you wish to discuss the job role in further detail, please contact Stephen Dawson, chief executive, or Lesley Cooper, executive officer on 01359 245801 or via email [email protected]
