Revised dates for Scotland – AMTRA and AHDA Roadshow dates confirmed

AMTRA SQPs have the perfect opportunity to top up their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points next summer, as AMTRA and AHDA announce the dates for the 2019 CPD roadshow. Taking place from May until the end of June 2019, the CPD roadshow will take in 12 venues throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

“We are now well in to the second half of the CPD period, and AMTRA SQPs will be required to obtain their minimum requirement of CPD points ahead of the deadline of 30th June 2019,” explains Stephen Dawson, secretary general of AMTRA, the regulatory authority representing some 7,000 AMTRA SQPs across the country.

“The last of the roadshow events takes place on 26th June, meaning those still needing to secure their last CPD points, can still do so by participating in any of the 12 events most convenient for them.”

All AMTRA SQPs are required to undertake CPD, with the amount of points required dependent on the type of SQP and on when the SQP qualified. AMTRA keeps a record of CPD points accumulated, and those not achieving the required minimum will not be able to renew their SQP registration unless they pass a fresh exam, at their own cost.

The 2018 roadshow programme was well received, with attendees commenting on the informative and relevant content, presented by high-level, enthusiastic speakers. It also acts as a handy refresher, and there are plenty of tips on communicating with the public. The format is kept as interactive as possible, involving and including all participants.

The programme will be split into two sections, one for companion animal/general and the other focusing on farm animals. The companion animal section will look at ectoparasites in dogs and cats, rabbit care and enhancing the professional prescriber role. The farm animal element will concentrate on liver fluke, poultry and sheep wormer resistance.

The two dates for Scotland have been swapped around from earlier provisional dates, to reduce the clash with NSA Highland Sheep event on 12 June.

The confirmed dates and venues for 2019 are:

15 May – Ludlow

16 May – Carmarthen

22 May – Cornwall

23 May – Somerset
