Information for RAMA (SQPs)

We have a range of Point of Sale (POS) materials for use in store, for companion animal, equine and farm animal businesses. These are intended to encourage animal owners to ask questions and engage with RAMAs, rather than start the interaction with their mind already made up. More on our Point of Sale materials, leaflets and posters...

Every time a RAMA prescribes a POM-VPS medicine, the RAMA must take into account the responsible use of medicines. This should include following relevant guidance from SCOPS and COWS.

Information about renewing your AMTRA RAMA status for 2025 was sent to all AMTRA RAMAs in mid-October 2024, with a series of reminders after that: please make sure we have an accurate email address for you. The undiscounted fee is £66 for those with the farm module as part of their registration, or £61 for everyone else, but a £2 discount is available for paying online in October, or a £1 discount for paying online in November.

The late payment fee of £79 is due for anyone renewing during December 2024, or the reinstatement fee of £89 from 1 January 2025 onwards.

All AMTRA RAMAs are required to undertake a certain amount of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) that has been accredited by AMTRA. The current two-year CPD period runs until 30 June 2025, by which time the required number of points must have been earned (or an exemption granted for exceptional circumstances). Those who didn’t earn the required number of points by 30 June 2025 won’t be able to renew their AMTRA status for 2026 (unless they pass a revalidation viva), but can carry on until 31 December 2025. More on CPD Requirements

The best place to start for CPD is the AMTRA website. AMTRA hosts a growing range of CPD itself - once you are logged in, visit the AMTRA CPD Academy to see what's available. More is coming soon.

We also list on our website a range of other CPD that is open to all RAMAs, much online but including other means of gaining accredited CPD. More on other CPD opportunities available to all RAMAs...

All RAMAs are required to abide by the regulatory controls which include the Veterinary Medicines Regulations, the associated Code of Practice, and relevant VMD guidance. More on the regulatory controls including Code of Practice and Guidance...

Updating your contact details

Even though most RAMAs are supported by their employers, your qualification is personal to you, and AMTRA will write to you at your home address.

Please remember that when you signed your enrolment form, you acknowledged the importance of keeping AMTRA advised of any change in personal details (such as name change) or if you move house - please do not expect your employer to do this for you. You can login to the AMTRA website and update your contact details at any time.

Your representatives

The Board and Council includes a number of people who have been selected by AMTRA RAMAs to represent them on Council.

If you have questions or concerns or proposals for AMTRA, then of course do Contact the AMTRA Office. But if you would like to contact your representatives, please do so. More information on Your Representatives

RAMA Locums

AMTRA offers a short list of RAMA locums (that is, someone who temporarily stands in for another RAMA) to enable a business to continue to prescribe and supply POM-VPS and NFA-VPS medicines while the customary RAMA is absent for whatever reason. More on RAMA Locums
